The Griswold Tigers have been members of the Corner Conference since 2018.
Troy Nicklaus, Athletic Director
Mr Nick is a graduate of Sumner High School. He received his teaching degree and coaching certificate from Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa where he represented the Peacocks on their football and wrestling teams. While attending college, his coaching career started at Sumner High School where he was an assistant football and wrestling coach. Upon graduation from college, he started teaching and coaching football and wrestling at Griswold.
His coaching career at Griswold included 15 years as assistant football coach until he retired in 2002. Highlights of coaching were two teams making it to the state playoffs.
His 24-year tenure of coaching wrestling at Griswold included 9 years as assistant coach and 15 years as head coach until his retirement in 2011.
While as head coach, his teams posted a dual meet record of 314 wins, 126 losses and 2 ties. That is a 70 percent team dual meet winning record. It is also the most dual meet wins of a head coach in Griswold High School history. His teams accomplishments include 5 Western Iowa Conference championships, 4 Sectional Championships, 4 Sectional Runner-ups and qualifying for 5 Regional Dual meets. He had the honor of qualifying two of his teams to the State Dual Meet Tournament in Cedar Rapids in 2003 and 2005. He was honored in 2005 being named Southwest District Class 1A Coach of the Year.
Over the 15 years, he coached 20 state qualifiers, with 6 of them taking home medals from the state tournament.
Coaching gave Coach Nicklaus the opportunity to work with many coaches, officials, fans and hundreds of kids that have given him great memories, experiences and stories.
Coach Nicklaus continues to teach Elementary Physical Education and Athletic Director at Griswold Schools.
